On Saturday, April 18, 2026, Renzo Gracie Spokane Valley took three adults and 29 youth competitors to Roll-A-Lot 15: Spokane.

Each competitor faced their fears – whether it was stepping out to compete for the first time or going against bigger opponents – and came out victorious in their efforts.

“Just the fact that they faced their fears and stepped on the mats to represent our school makes me extremely proud,” Professor Markus said.

Especially notable in his efforts was Christopher Lomeli – an 11-year-old gray-black belt. Christopher had been to four tournaments before he finally won his first match at this tournament. The gray-black belt racked up an impressive 21-4 score before the three minutes of competition time ran out.

"(Christopher) went from surviving on the mat in competition to hunting like a lion,” Coach Louie said. “One of (the) many proud moments of being Christopher's father and coach."

For Dallas Thompson, he impressed Professor Markus through his resilient attitude. Dallas took second in gi, after several hard-fought rounds. Though he lost to a much more experienced competitor, the white belt refused to give up and kept fighting until the buzzer rang.

“He may not have brought the gold home, but he’s shown me his heart is made of gold,” Professor Markus said.

For Kane Beuchat, Cambree Maxey, Kaiden Nenno and Jemmy Sherman, their excitement came when their brackets got moved to the Pit. Both Cambree and Kane had lightning quick submissions: both pulling guard and executing armbars. Cambree got hers done in 23 seconds. Kane’s submission came in just 9 seconds!

George Sanchez Sr. competed in the afternoon — barely making it to his bracket as his truck had broken down in Oregon earlier that morning. George made it in time, and competed in both the Gi and NoGi divisions — taking home gold in Gi and silver in NoGi.
